A REALTOR® is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics.
Code of Ethics
The Code establishes time-honored and baseline principles that come from the collective experiences of REALTORS® since the Code of Ethics was first established in 1913. Those principles can be loosely defined as:
Loyalty to clients;
Fiduciary (legal) duty to clients;
Cooperation with competitors;
Truthfulness in statements and advertising;
and non-interference in exclusive relationships that other REALTORS® have with their clients.
To earn a designation, a REALTOR® a real estate agent has taken coursework and demonstrated specific skills, performance and knowledge in a particular area of the real estate industry.
Owner/Broker- John Maquar Manager- Jeff Kahn
John Maquar is the Owner/Broker of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, Northridge. He has served on the Professional Standards Committee at the local Association of Realtors as well as at the State Level. At the California Association of Realtors, John was the Vice-Chairman of the Professional Standards Committee for 2004. John has been involved with Professional Standards at the State, Local and National level for over twenty years. The information obtained from these organizations is regularly passed along to the agents at weekly office meetings so that the agents can be keep abreast of the various issues relating to ethics and risk management. John was President of the Southland Association of Realtors and was awarded the top honor of Realtor of The Year in 2002. In addition John has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee at the Southland Regional Association of Realtors for many years.
Jeff Kahn is the Sales Manager of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, Northridge. Jeff has a Juris Doctorate Degree from UCLA and practiced law for a number of years before going full time into the Real Estate Profession. Jeff has been a Sales Manager for over 25 years and has served as Chairman of numerous committees at the local and State Level. Jeff teaches the Contracts and Disclosure Classes at the local Association of Realtors and has chaired the Standard Forms Committee at both CAR and Southland Regional Association of Realtors. Jeff's legal backround is especially suited for keeping the agents informed of current laws as they impact the daily handling of real estate transactions. Jeff has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee at the Southland Regional Association of Realtors for many years and was awarded the top honor of Realtor of the Year in 1998 and Realtor Associate of the Year in 1987. Recently, Jeff served on the task force for CAR that was responsible for creating the current Residential Purchase Agreement used by agents throughout the State of California. Currently Jeff is on the Risk Management Committee at the Southland Regional Association of Realtors. This committee holds regular seminars for Owners, Brokers, Managers and agents in the San Fernando Valley to keep them abreast of current developments in the real estate field. Jeff has also served as a Director for CARETS.
